Hey, I'm Ergi,
visual designer and illustrator
I came to design looking for a way to express myself and solve problems at the same time. That search has taken me through several disciplines over the years, from performing electronic shoegaze to publishing satirical illustrations on a daily basis.
It's becoming a challenge to stay a believer while the world quietly loses its mind. Things feel more and more out of our control and design is being used to make us feel powerless and isolated. But design, used as a freedom tool, can give that power back: build trust, make life easier, accessible and, why not, prettier.
Design decides whether a technology hands people control or quietly takes it from them. That is why I devote my time to sovereign technology, to the organisations defending digital rights, and to the people who build open tools and give them away.
I also draw weird black and white cartoons as Tronkilu. That's where tronkilu.studio comes from, the name I am giving to my practice.
Practice
My work covers brand and visual identity, design systems, editorial and layout design, accessible design, and visual auditing. My design practice is self-taught. My academic background is in computer science, which keeps me as comfortable with the technical side of a project as with the visual one.
Since 2018 I have had the pleasure to work with the fantastic team at Ura Design as Visual Design Lead, covering identity alignment, editorial design, interface and communication design. Over this time I have worked with several organisations and initiatives across open source and internet freedom technology, privacy tools, censorship-circumvention platforms, and digital rights defenders. I helped them earn the trust and recognition they need to reach the people who rely on them.
